1911 caudron racing monoplane model 1911 Caudron Racing Monoplane
1/3 scale
Engine: O.S. fs120
Wingspan: 102 in.
Weight: 15lb.
Own design

Structure: Fuselage is a spruce framework, fabric covered. The wings have spruce spars and laminated spruce and balsa ribs. Trailing edges are steel cable. The rudder is an aluminium tube frame with aluminium tube spar and two wooden ribs. The tailplane has balsa spars with spruce and balsa ribs. All fabric covering is doped nylon. Wings and tailplane are covered on the lower surface only aft of the mainspar. The wheels are hand-made using laminates plywood rims, fabricated steel tube and sheet hubs, steel cable spokes and rubber tube tyres.

The model uses four-function controls operating the rudder, wing-warping, tailplane warping and throttle. Heavy duty sailwinch-type servos are needed for the warping controls.

Flying characteristics: Slow and stable. Model responds well to all controls. Very gentle rate of climb as there is only just enough power in the engine. Reasonably calm weather is essential.

First flown in 1990 this model has won prizes at a number of events.

Current status: Written off after total loss of control at Woodvale Rally, 1996.
