Sopwith Pup
1/4 scale
Engine: Webra Speed-91
Wingspan: 80in.
Weight: 15lb.
The model represents Pup no. C305, built by Standard Motors Ltd.
Structure: Fuselage is a balsa frame covered with fabric. Wings have spruce spars with 1/8in balsa sheet ribs. Tailplane and fin are all balsa. Fabric covering is doped nylon.
This model started out as a DB Models kit, but I did some re-drawing
of the plans to reduce the greatly oversize tail surfaces,
shorten the nose and reshape some of the outlines. Despite this it
is still very much a semi-scale model.
Flying characteristics: This model is slow and steady, capable of all the basic aerobatic manoeuvres. It needs to build up a lot of speed to roll successfully.
First flown in 1985 this was built as a fun model but even so has won the odd prize at scale fly-ins.
Current Status: Sold a few years ago to a dealer. Current whereabouts unknown.
